With a confirmed release date for later this yearBorderlands 3 is among the most anticipated games for the year, and while fans of the series can look forward to its arrival this fall, we might not have too much longer to wait for more Borderlands goodness down the line.

Steam data has appeared (via ResetEra) for a new piece of DLC for Borderlands 2 called "Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary," which according to the reported description will act as a bridge to the story of Borderlands 3:

Return to the award winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault's map has been stolen and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet.

Aside from the addition of new bosses, loot, and other new features, the DLC will also reportedly raise the in-game level cap for Borderlands 2 to level 80, while also giving newcomers to the title (or those that haven't played in a while) a chance to boost to level 30 and hop right into the DLC.

The release date for the DLC appears to be timed for June 9, 2019 (tomorrow), which would make it seem likely that the DLC will be a surprise release during E3 2019 tomorrow. I think it's safe to say that if we see Borderlands 3 at (presumably) Microsoft's press conference tomorrow, this DLC could act as one of their "It's Out Now" announcements, and give players a nice surprise before the release of the third main game this fall.

Borderlands 3 will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13, 2019, with a Stadia version to arrive down the line. You can also pre-order the game now over at Amazon.
