Borderlands 3 was finally announced last week by Gearbox Software at PAX East and while the game's debut trailer got many fans excited, it most notably was still lacking information about a potential release date for the title. Now, it seems like the launch day for the game could have recently been divulged on Twitter, but fans aren't sure if they should believe it or not.

In a now-deleted tweet from the official Borderlands Twitter account, a message stated that "Mayhem is Coming September 13." The rest of the tweet in question encouraged fans to pre-order Borderlands 3 to gain access to the Gold Weapons Skin pack. After staying live for a few minutes, the message was then promptly removed. You can find an archive of the tweet right here though if you're interested.

While it seems very likely that Gearbox may have just jumped the gun on revealing Borderlands 3's release date prior to more information becoming available later this week on April 3, some fans can't help but think this could all just be an elaborate April Fools' Day joke. In case you haven't logged on the Internet today, it's April Fools' Day which means that every brand around seems to have some sort of bad prank that they're trying to pass off as truth.

"Don't believe anything until April 3rd boys," said one response to the tweet when it was still live. Even though there seems to be more at play here than a simple prank from Gearbox--the fact that the tweet has been deleted says quite a bit--many are still hesitant to take it as truth just yet. That said, Gearbox's CEO Randy Pitchford did recently tell a fan on Twitter that Borderlands 3 is coming "sooner than you think" which means a September date could definitely be in play.

As mentioned, we're slated to learn a lot more about Borderlands 3 come Wednesday of this week, so we'll likely know one way or another very soon if this is all legitimate.
