Borderlands 3 launched on September 13 and has done remarkably well since. Still going strong, it has been confirmed by 2K Games that Gearbox Software's Borderlands 3 has sold five million copies in five days.

In a press release at Business Wire, publisher 2K revealed that the latest installment into the Borderlands series has broken multiple records. Within the first five days since its launch, fifty percent more consumers had purchased Borderlands 3 than the previous Borderlands 2 which launched in 2012.

This news makes Borderlands 3 not only the fastest-selling title in 2K’s history, but also their highest-selling on PC in a five-day window.

The press release also states that the game has sold “more than 5 million units in its first five days, leading the Borderlands franchise to generate more than $1 billion in Net Bookings and becoming the second franchise in 2K history to achieve this milestone.”

This news also reveals that digital sales for the loot shooter are 2K’s highest, with more than seventy percent of consumers grabbing the game digitally in the first five days since launch. The first three days saw the title become the biggest physical launch of 2019 in the UK. Records were also broken in regards to pre-orders, with the figures being the highest for a 2K title, but also breaking pre-order records on the Epic Games Store. In fact, figures were looking good for PC versions three days in.

In streaming news, the press release states that on Twitch, Borderlands 3 reached the top position for Most-Watched Game on its launch day, but has held itself in the top five since. There have also been more than fourteen-million hours of content viewed on Twitch for the title, more than half the viewership that Borderlands 2 has been able to generate in its seven-year lifetime.
