We've known for quite some time that 2K Games has a new, unannounced game from one of its "biggest franchises" in the pipeline. This mysterious title was originally supposed to be released before the end of this current fiscal year (March 31, 2019) but Take-Two ended up delaying the project into FY2020 in May of 2018.

Today, Take-Two reiterated that this mystery game is still on pace to release in this window, but unfortunately didn't offer much insight into what the game would be. During the Q&A portion of Take-Two's quarterly financial call, one investor asked why there is so much secrecy still surrounding the game and whether or not it would be in-line to release in the designated window. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick responded saying, "In terms of the unannounced 2K title, that is very much on track and we expect it to stay on track and we have very high expectations."

For quite some time now, many have thought this game to be that of Borderlands 3, from Gearbox Software. Rumors have also swirled that it could potentially be a new Bioshock title, but everything we currently know about that game seems to indicate that it's much earlier on in development, meaning a release before the end of next March would seem unlikely. All signs point to this game being Borderlands 3, and even Gearbox has teased the game's existence as of late.

Interestingly, this same investor also asked about Take-Two's own relationship with Gearbox given the internal turmoil that seems to be transpiring at the moment. Zelnick said nothing but good things about Gearbox stating, "Our relationship with Gearbox, which is an external studio, is excellent. The company is stable and they're doing a phenomenal job as they always do. We support them greatly."

If this mystery game is indeed Borderlands 3, it seems likely that we will end up hearing more about the game in the coming months. With E3 2019 (somehow) already quickly approaching, you'd have to imagine that a formal reveal of whatever this project is, Borderlands 3 or not, will transpire before or during that show, especially if it's going to release in a little more than a year. We'll keep you posted as we learn more about this title in the future.
