Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition and The Handsome Collection Arriving With 4K Updates
During a tumultuous stage presentation at PAX East, Gearbox confirmed that Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will feature 4K visuals.
The previous titles in the Borderlands series are getting a 4K facelift. During a PAX East stage presentation riddled with technical problems and dad magic tricks, Gearbox ran a trailer for an ESRB-leaked Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, along with a look at an Ultra HD version of The Handsome Collection.
Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will include the base game of what Gearbox calls “the original shooter-looter,” with the package including the base game, now accompanied with new weapons, a 4K and HDR upgrade, 4-player co-operative play, and all 4 add-on packs. The Handsome Collection underwent through a similar visual upgrade, the collection including Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel.
Gearbox experienced some difficulty showing off the trailer on stage, with the video noticeably stuttering—nervous Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who just before had graced the show with an overextended card trick, visibly and verbally expressed nervousness that the same fate would befall upon the Borderlands 3 reveal, which before this PAX East event was the worst kept secret.
Both the Game of the Year Edition and The Handsome Collection will be playable in 4K on the Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and PC. Both will be available on April 3, which is the same day Gearbox promises more information on the newly-announced third game in the series, according to the studio’s official website. The 4K update for The Handsome Collection will be free for existing owners of the game.
Other than these two re-releases and the 3 reveal, Gearbox also announced a version of Bulletstorm for Nintendo Switch. Check out the trailer for Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, free of stuttering, embedded below.
