The Borderlands games have always been a prime place to enjoy co-op shooting madness, and last year's Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is that and much more. As a re-release of the original title with all of its DLC and some new features and visual enhancements, now is as good a time as any to jump into the co-op shooter, especially now that it's free for a limited time.Developer and publisher Gearbox Software has announced that Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will be available to play for free for a limited time on Xbox One and PC through Steam. Specifically, Xbox One owners will be able to play from now through 11:59pm PDT on April 22, while Steam users can access the game until 9:59am PDT on April 23.

According to Gearbox, the free trial will include access to all of the content available in Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition during its week-long run. Progress from the free trial will carry over for players that end up purchasing the full game on their respective platform and looking to continue their adventure in Pandora.

The past few months have been eventful for fans of the series, making it a good time to revisit the original game if you haven't played it in a while. Last month saw the debut of Borderlands 3 on Steam, while 2K Games announced the upcoming Borderlands: Legendary Collection for Nintendo Switch that will pack in the first two games and The Pre-Sequel! alongside all of their DLC. Likewise, the Legendary Collection's release on Switch is also coming alongside the release of new collections for the BioShock series and XCOM 2 on Switch.

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with the game also coming to Nintendo Switch late next month.
