Kitfox Games was one of the several developers participating in the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, bringing their game Boyfriend Dungeon. For those unfamiliar with its high-concept premise, it's basically a happy marriage (or casual relationship, in this case?) of a dungeon crawler and dating simulator. Basically, you find weapons to use in combat, and then date those same weapons—one being Valeria, a dagger.

We've gotten some brief looks at gameplay and character designs on our way to Boyfriend Dungeon's eventual 2019 release, but Kitfox is pulling the curtain on some new elements that have been worked on since the game's successful Kickstarter campaign this past summer.

In the brief teaser, roughly, 30 seconds long, you can see the player character fight a boss monster in the game's second dungeon, a nightclub. After that, the teaser reveals Valeria's fully-animated transformation sequence, as she dramatically and stylistically morphs from a dagger to a very flirtatious woman.

Needless to say, I bet you haven't seen a concept quite like this before. Several people in my gaming social circles are quite excited about this project, from the hybrid gameplay genre to the game's overall commitment to inclusivity—the "boyfriends" you can date in this game are all over the gender spectrum.

In case you missed it, you can revisit my interview with Tanya X. Short, the director and designer of Boyfriend Dungeon—we talked about that commitment to inclusivity, along with the unique hybrid genre and her personal interest in procedural generation. Look out for the game on Steam sometime next year.
