Bungie Announces Partnership With Chinese Tech Company NetEase
In a move that seems to have come completely out of left-field, Bungie has announced that they have partnered with Chinese service provider NetEase.
In a completely unprecedented move that is seemingly shocking long-time fans around the world, developer Bungie has announced that they have partnered with the Chinese tech company NetEase, which is one of the country’s most popular online service provider.
According to Bungie, the main goal of this new partnership is to bring multiple, new gaming franchises to the world. This, of course, doesn’t mean that Bungie is abandoning their current franchise, Destiny, as they mention that they’ll continue to work with Activision in order to support Destiny and Destiny 2. In fact, next week the developer is outlining its plans for year two of the latter.
While speaking about the deal, William Ding, NetEase’s CEO and Director, had this to say:
“Bungie and NetEase share the same vision and ambition to deliver incredible experiences to millions of players all around the globe. We are excited to partner with Bungie as they transform from a single franchise development team into a global, multi-franchise entertainment studio.”
Of course, this deal raises a multitude of questions, including what their long-term future with Activision looks like and, most importantly, what new franchises it and NetEase will bring into the fold. Unfortunately, we don’t have any of those answers right now, so we’ll just have to wait and see. A
Bungie’s latest game, Destiny 2, was released in August of last year and is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. If you want to pick up the game on Amazon, you can do so by clicking here.
