As you already know by now, Final Fantasy VII just celebrated its 25th anniversary since its first release on January 31, 1997 - now its developer Square Enix has announced a peculiar piece of merch to celebrate, a Buster Sword digital alarm clock.

The Buster Sword is Final Fantasy VII protagonist Cloud Strife's main weapon. Just like many other oversized weapons in Japanese media, the Buster Sword was directly inspired by the Dragonslayer sword found in Berserk, the dark fantasy manga written by the late Kentaro Miura.

Cloud's Buster Sword is the most iconic symbol of Final Fantasy VII. The weapon is the sole thing displayed on the game's title screen, and Cloud wields it in all of the key visuals, including those made for Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Thinking about it this way, it slowly starts making sense that Square Enix decided to make a Buster Sword alarm clock. Think about it, is there a Final Fantasy VII fan who wouldn't want to wake up to this every morning?
