The seemingly endless wave of dark games continues to run deep into the Halloween season with the launch trailer for Cyanide Studio's poetic upcoming title Call of Cthulhu.

Starting off in a thick forest under the cover of nightfall, the trailer shows the unfortunate Sarah Hawkins running for her life from an unseen entity. A brief flashback provides something of an interlude depicting her outdoors in broad daylight painting a portrait. The contrast is stark as the beautifully lit scene strips away dragging the viewer back into a haunting dark world. From here, we are thrust into a whirlwind of incantations and nightmarish scenarios before discovering Hawkins' body lying dead in the woods.

Call of Cthulhu is an adaptation of the classic pen-and-paper RPG of the same name revolving around investigator Edward Pierce. Suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and battling alcoholism, Pierce is employed to unravel the mystery of Sarah Hawkin's death.

For those brave enough to indulge in its classic Lovecraft tales, Call of Cthulhu will be launching on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 30, 2018. It can also currently be pre-ordered from Amazon.
