A new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout trailer has Treyarch Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar talking all about the Blackout battle royale map.

Due to the unique nature of Blackout, the biggest map ever in Call of Duty history, it introduces some new gameplay elements not previously seen. Verticality is a much bigger deal with varied elevations and tall buildings that allow players to base jump off of them. Vehicles allow players to navigate Blackout the way they want to.

Highlights of the map include: Nuketown Island as Nuketown and the surrounding areas, Raid and Stronghold are opposite each other allowing players to snipe between the two previously separate maps, and the construction site has you battling upwards to the top. All of these features have not been seen in previous Call of Duty games.

Blackout will be a battle royale mode available in Black Ops 4 that features upwards of 80 players fighting on a slowly collapsing map until only one remains. A beta for Blackout mode ran from September 10-17 and experienced some changes, such as an increase to both the maximum player count and speed at which the map condenses.
