Microsoft announced today that Call of DutyGhosts is now backwards compatible on the Xbox One. This means that if you owned the game on Xbox 360, you can now install and play the 360 version on your Xbox One. Call of Duty: Ghosts was released back in November of 2013, but unlike the game's predecessors Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012), it is unlikely to see a similar spike in online players. The reason? Call of Duty: Ghosts was already available on the Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Ghosts was the first game in the series to be released both on old gen-- Xbox 360 and PS3 and WiiU –and current-gen consoles–Xbox One and PS4. Of course it was also the last entry in the series to take place in a year close to our own. The games that followed, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare all took place in a futuristic setting. And if you remember, Ghosts was also known for one of its main characters: the lovable German Shepherd Riley.

Nevertheless, Xbox One backwards compatibility is continuing to see additions to its list of compatible games, and even though Call of Duty: Ghosts may not be met with a similar player resurgence, it's nice to see Microsoft breathing new life into older titles.

If you're as excited for another WWII entry in the Call of Duty franchise as I am, you'll be pleased to know that Call of Duty: WWII will released on November 3 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The game will also have a closed beta available to players who pre-order the game ahead of time.
