Activision has today revealed the sales figures for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from its first three days on the market and as you might have expected, it once again did gangbusters.

In its opening weekend following release, Activision is reporting that Black Ops 4 raked in more than half a billion dollars. This isn't anything all that new for the Call of Duty franchise, but it still remains staggering just how much longevity this series has had. To provide additional context, Activision also revealed that player numbers increased with Black Ops 4, surpassing that of Call of Duty: WWII and the previous installment in this sub-series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

Rob Kostich, EVP and GM of Call of Duty also gave the following statement to talk about the success the Black Ops 4 has found so far in avenues other than just sales.

"Black Ops 4 is off to a blockbuster start. Our player counts and hours played are up year over year, our viewership on Twitch has set new standards and is showing just how fun Blackout is to play and to watch, and the weekend results yet again put Call of Duty at that highest tier of entertainment. Our digital sales results have been record-breaking across all platforms, and the overall performance strong. We’re really excited about Black Ops 4’s momentum. There’s much more to come, we’re just getting started.”

It seems likely that Call of Duty could once again be the sales king in 2018, but I'm still interested in seeing how it continues to perform late into the year once Red Dead Redemption 2 and Battlefield V hit the market. I'm most interested in seeing how it contends with the former, personally.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you haven't read our review of the game just yet, you can check it out here.
