Unfortunately, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III won’t have a single-player campaign on older-generation consoles.
The blog post explained the absence of the mode by saying that the PS3 and Xbox 360 couldn’t handle the “ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design.”
“The Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign. The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.”
They reassured players with the existence of the all-new Zombies story mode, alongside a full-featured multiplayer experience. However, PS3 and Xbox 360 players will also miss out on using the new Weapon Paint Shop and the new eSports tools.
“Fans should note that other features built to leverage the next generation hardware like the new Weapon Paint Shop and the new suite of eSports tools will only be available on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.”
As a kind of compensation, Treyarch suggested that the price tag for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be $49.99, instead of $59.99 of the PS4 and Xbox One, and will also include a a bonus download for the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III launches on November 6 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
