Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Will Support More Than 100 Players in Ground War

Infinity Ward is planning to offer bigger multiplayer modes than ever before in their reimagining of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Infinity Ward is pushing more than 100 players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s returning Ground War game mode. The mode and maps will be vastly different in scope when compared to the more condensed 12 and 20-player game modes. On top of that, other modes will consist of 40 players as well as 64.

What’s most interesting about this new take on Ground War is the fact that it actually offers a higher player count than Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode, Blackout. The fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will offer cross-play between all of its available platforms seems to imply that, with the inclusion of all these new modes, Infinity Ward is trying to win over fans of every type of shooter, both large and small-scale. As of right now, Infinity Ward says that they’re still playtesting 100-players so no footage of Ground War at this scale exists just yet.

Infinity Ward gave fans their first look at the multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. While the game is still rooted in the systems and mechanics that longtime fans have come to know and love, Infinity Ward is making some noticeable changes to the overall multiplayer offerings. That’s to be expected though considering the weight the name Modern Warfare has in the Call of Duty series and first-person shooters in general.

With cross-play in mind, Infinity Ward has said that they’ll be making the PC version of the game run at an uncapped frame rate. Console players who are worried about the competitive nature of PC players should put those fears aside as the PS4 and Xbox One version will include an aim assist mechanic for fairer competition.
