Unlike the previous entries that were launched in November, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 targets a late October release, but apparently it doesn't mean the open beta tests will be available sooner than usual.

Regarding the fact that the open beta access for Call of Duty titles usually becomes available around two months prior to launch, it was believed that the Modern Warfare 2 beta test would go live in August this year.

That being said, a recent report from RalphValves, a trustworthy source for Call of Duty information, claims that the beta access for Modern Warfare 2 will be available in mid-September, over a month before the game's full release.

According to the data extracted from Amazon's product listing, the beta session for Modern Warfare 2 will be available first on PS4 and PS5, followed by other platforms almost a week later.

  • Week 1 (Only on PlayStation):
    • Early Access: September 15 to September 16 (Pre-order bonus)
    • Open Beta: September 17 to September 19
  • Week 2 (All platforms):
    • Early Access: September 22 to September 23 (Pre-order bonus)
    • Open Beta: September 24 to September 26

Keep in mind the beta dates above have not been officially confirmed by Activision, and we don't expect them to be confirmed until August 2022.

According to RalphValves, Activision has dedicated next month for further in-depth showcases from the multiplayer section of Modern Warfare 2, including the traditional modes.

It's yet to be seen whether the rumored DMZ mode would be revealed prior to launch, but a recent report from Tom Henderson revealed that this mysterious new mode will be launched alongside the game, and then will receive more updates over time.

The DMZ mode is said to be an extraction-based multiplayer raid mode with some similarities to Escape from Tarkov. Full details on DMZ are yet to be announced officially. Previous reports suggested that DMZ might be a free-to-play experience launching in 2023, but it was then debunked by a number of insiders.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 currently targets a launch on October 28. The game will be available for both current-gen and next-gen consoles as well as PC. It's worth noting that the PC version will be available on both Steam and Battle Net.
