Each year's annualized entry in the Call of Duty series typically finds its way near the top of the year-end gaming sales charts. Once again in 2019, it's expected that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will continue this trend and will likely be the top-seller of the year when all is said and done.

In a new report published by Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group today, it was said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is expected to be 2019's best-selling game, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise whatsoever. If this ends up happening, this would be the ninth time in the past 11 years that a Call of Duty title has been the year's top-seller. Piscatella goes on to predict that NBA 2K20Madden 20Borderlands 3, and Mortal Kombat 11 will round out the top five spots. As of this moment, Mortal Kombat 11 is 2019's current best-seller.

As mentioned, it really shouldn't come as too big of a shock that Modern Warfare is expected to do this well, especially taking into account that there seem to be no other sales juggernauts releasing this year. Last year saw the launch of Red Dead Redemption II, which actually ended up topping Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 by the end of 2018. The remainder of 2019 really has no releases of RDR2's caliber to contend with COD, however.

Personally, I'm more interested in seeing how Modern Warfare performs compared to past entries in the series. There seems to be more hype and buzz around Modern Warfare this year than there has been for any Call of Duty games over the past couple years. Whether or not it will be one of the best-selling in the history of the franchise remains to be seen, but I think it's definitely possible.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is slated to arrive next month on October 25 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Currently, the game is having an open beta period this weekend across all platforms.
