It's that time of the week once again when the Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour rolls around.

Giving a single Pokemon the limelight for just an hour each week, the Spotlight Hours offer a small respite from the usual spawns.

As we head into one of the most exciting Pokemon GO events in quite some time, Luminous Legends X, this weeks featured Pokemon is quite apt.

With Fairy-type Pokemon at the forefront of this new event, alongside Dragons, Cottonee is going to be spawning more frequently as part of this week's Spotlight Hour. But, can Cottonee be Shiny in Pokemon GO? Let's take a look.

WHAT DO SHINY COTTONEE AND SHINY WHIMSICOTT LOOK LIKE?

Cottonee is usually a small, floating green cotton puff and its evolution, Whimsicott, is a bipedal plant type Pokemon, sporting beige and brown colours.

Their Shiny forms vary quite substantially than their usual ones, or they are at least far more noticeable than some of the other Pokemon's.

Cottonee's usual green colours turn nice shades of yellow and orange. Whimsicott on the other hand turns a lot darker in the body, with its green parts turning an almost cobalt blue.

CAN COTTONEE AND WHIMSICOTT BE SHINY IN POKEMON GO?

Unfortunately, at least in terms of the Pokemon GO Spotlight Hours, May doesn't get off to a strong start.

Neither Cottonee or Whimsicott can be, or ever have been, available in there Shiny Forms in Pokemon GO.

Here's hoping the rest of May shapes up better.

What Other Spotlight Hours are There This Month?

Following Cottonee, there will be a further three Spotlight Hours this month. They are as follows:

  • May 11 - Dratini + 2x Candies for Transferring Pokemon
  • May 18 - Alolan Ratata + 2x XP for Evolving Pokemon
  • May 25 - Marill + 2x Catch Stardust
