The Spider-Man 4 movie was supposed to star Tobey Maguire, but it was eventually canceled due to a rift between director Sam Raimi and Sony. Sam Raimi was not satisfied with the movie’s script, so the title was eventually abandoned and a reboot was released later in 2012.

Canceled Spider-Man 4 Tobey Maguire Movie Tie-In Game Footage Leaked

Obscure Gamers have released a new video showcasing the gameplay of the canceled Spider-Man 4 game. The game is running on the Xbox 360 in the video and it is stated it was a tie-in game for the Spider-Man 4 movie. The game was slated to release on Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS, and Wii.

The development of the PC and PlayStation/Xbox version was handled by Radical Entertainment while Wii and DS versions were handled by Eurocom and Vicarious Visions respectively.

As far as Radical Entertainment’s version of the game is concerned, it is reported that it was 10-15% complete. There was only one mission that was close to being final, so the game was quite far from being final. The assets used in the title

Radical Entertainment was a subsidiary of Activision and was the team behind the critically acclaimed Prototype franchise. The Spider-Man 4 game was based on the Prototype game, and several assets from it were used in Prototype 2 after the game’s cancellation.

While the game had a Wii release, the Wii version was totally different from the other variants, possibly due to the console’s hardware limitations. Instead of being an open-world title, the Wii version followed a linear gameplay pattern and it used Eurocom’s own engine.

Leaked footage like these gives us some good insight into some unreleased projects. While the game was never released, the game as a whole looks quite solid, to say the least. Be it the web-swinging or the combat Radical Entertainment seemed to have done a pretty great job in nailing down the mechanics.
