Today is EA Play 2020 day. That means a new FIFA is getting announced and the hype cycle for the yearly release kicks off again. However, there's a new player in town. Frankly, it just might be the best football game to come out in years. That's right folks, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of Champions is out August 28. Today, the team at Bandai Namco released a seven and a half-minute long trailer that shows off everything the game provides. Check it out below.

Light-hearted joking aside, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions isn't going to compete with FIFA 21. They are completely different games. However, those looking for something different from their football video games might have a real winner this August. Captain Tsubasa ditches simulated on-pitch action for a true arcade experience. It also tosses aside any semblance of a predatory Ultimate Team mode. Instead focusing on a deep story mode that tells two separate tales.

In one version of what Bandai Namco is calling "The Journey" (very cheeky), players can either take on the iconic role of Tsubasa Ozora. It relives classic moments from the fan-favorite anime.

On the other side of the story mode coin, you'll create your own new hero to take on the world. The trailer gives a quick look at several of the countries participating in this new tournament. From England to Uruguay to France, most of the world's major football powers are represented. Oh, and the USA is there too.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is quickly shaping up as the most exciting football game coming out in 2020. The game launches on August 28 for Nintendo Switch and PS4. If you want to see FIFA's return salvo, make sure to watch our live reactions to today's EA Play via YouTube.
