Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions Online Modes Detailed in Latest Trailer
First, Captain Tsubasa called their career mode "The Journey". Now, the team has an Ultimate Team-like mode with no in-game purchases. What is FIFA, again?
With PES taking the year off and FIFA pushed back to October, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has an excellent window to take football-loving gamers by storm next month. The game already boasts what looks like a robust career mode. Plus, the over-the-top special shots ensure the gameplay stands out from the crowded sim market. And now, the team at Bandai Namco has pulled back the curtain on the game’s online modes. Give the latest trailer a watch below.
Captain Tsubasa anime fans will likely recognize some big names from this trailer. It also confirms that players can employ some of that classic “joga bonito” style with the Brazilian national team. Of course, Online Versus will likely be many players go-to match type; however, Captain Tsubasa opens the door for 2v2 play. Sadly, it won’t match the joy of going 10v10 in Pro Clubs, but it’s a welcome move that lets you team up with your pals.
You can also engage in what looks like a bit of an Ultimate Team-style creation of your own dream team. We can see a pack shop that looks to give you new players; however, the trailer makes it clear that you won’t be making in-game purchases to buy packs. These purely come from playing the game. Frankly, that’s some of the best news I’ve heard all week.
Players will battle through divisions, trying to reach the top spot in the world. Obviously, we’ll have to wait until we get hands-on, but it looks like a much more user-friendly version of FIFA‘s Ultimate Team. Heck, you can even customize your players’ cleat colors. No, more EA taking away Eder Militao’s pink boots for no reason. That’s a joke probably five people get.
Anyways, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions launches on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4 on August 28.
