Captain Tsubasa: Rise of Champions is an upcoming soccer game from the team at Bandai Namco. Unlike popular soccer sims like FIFA and PES, Captain Tsubasa has a much more arcadey take on the beautiful game. It's also based on an anime and manga franchise that's been ongoing since 1981. It's a wildly successful series with tons of characters and stories to draw inspiration from. Bandai Namco gave us a peek at a few of those characters today with a brand new trailer. It introduces some of the big players from Rise of Champions and gives another great look at how wild Captain Tsubasa looks. Give it a below.

I must admit, I've never seen any of the Captain Tsubasa anime. So, while research tells me these characters are from there, I don't have any affinity for any of them. However, just in this short trailer, there are a few that stand out as players I have to know more about. Makoto Soda is called "Ace Killer" in the trailer. I'm assuming he's going to be immediately become my top striker if that's allowed. I'm also highly intrigued by these Tachibana Twins, who use acrobatics to pull off ridiculous moves. It sort of reminds me of when figure skater Kenny Wu joins the Mighty Ducks and dominates the ice hockey rink. And those are just a few of many

Even outside of the characters, I'm incredibly excited for Captain Tsubasa: Rise of Champions. It stands out as one of the few sports titles embracing the arcade style. We might also get a good story mode for once, which is a welcome addition after EA axed their's from FIFA this season.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of Champions comes to Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4 in 2020.
