Castlevania Season 3 Has Been Greenlit by Netflix
Castlevania Season 3 has been greenlit by Netflix and will deliver ten additional episodes to the streaming service sometime in 2019.
Castlevania Season 3 has been greenlit by Netflix according to producer Adi Shankar, who announced the joyous news on Twitter just in time for Halloween.
Shankar went on to thank several people who influenced and helped create the animated series for Netflix’s streaming service.
Warren Ellis was one of my biggest artistic influences. He’s the such a G. I still can’t believe we work together on this show. His words bring these characters to life in a way that brings depth and nuance to each scene. He’s also a wonderful human being. Sam Deats deserves the spotlight. He’s an absolutely brilliant director and a semi-decent gamer. He’s a student of the game and he’s become a master. He directs EVERY episode of our show. Powerhouse Animation is the Pixar of this new generation. They cultivate, foster, and and develop talent like Sam Deats. My partner Kevin Kolde is the adult supervision I’ve always needed. Without him we would have no show. You saw what we can do with Season 2, you’ve called us the greatest video game adaptation of all time. Mark my words —- With Season 3 we’re going after that EMMY. We have artists from all over the world who love working on this show. Who work around the clock to fuse their passion into each and every frame. They do this because they u know that video games aren’t just for kids. Cartoons aren’t just for children. It’s an art form of immense sophistication. We are here to stake that claim. I hope that the legacy of our show is that it inspires a whole generation of storytellers who will protect these scared gaming titles and hand them down to the next generation to tell these stories even better. Gaming is the first truly global culture. We have to protect it. It’s iconography is our mythology.
Castlevania is one of the very few pieces of media based on a video game that has been well received, currently holding at a 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 1 premiered on July 7, 2017 with Season 2 coming in on October 26, 2018. The first season only had four episodes, with that number count doubled for Season 2, and Castlevania Season 3 will come with ten episodes.
Shankar is best known for his producer work on shorts such as The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Venom: Truth in Journalism, Power Rangers, and James Bond: In Service of Nothing, as well as the fantastic 2012 Dredd film. Warren Ellis, the writer for all 12 episodes of Castlevania, has a long history of working on animated series for comic characters such as Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men, and Blade. Sam Deats, the director for Castlevania, has not been credited on any major series aside from this one, making it his breakout work. Powerhouse Animation has done tons of animation work include for Red vs Blue, Darksiders 2, Starhawk, Epic Mickey 2, and Reigns: Her Majesty.
You can currently watch all episodes of Castlevania with a Netflix subscription and afterwards start up Star Trek: The Next Generation while you wait for Castlevania Season 3 to premiere.
