In a report from Variety, Oscar-Winning actress Cate Blanchett will play Lilith in the upcoming adaptation of Borderlands, directed by Eli Roth.

"I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands," says Roth. "We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House With a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do. From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director’s dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale. Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we’re going to create another iconic character in her already storied career.”

In addition to being directed by Roth, the film will be produced by Ari and Avi Arad, Erik Feig, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford, and Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick. The film will also be written by Craig Mazin, creator of HBO's Chernobyl miniseries and the upcoming Last of Us adaptation. Besides Blanchett's casting, it's unclear what other Borderlands characters will be featured and what the film's plot will be.

The Borderlands franchise started in 2009, with Borderlands 3 being released last September. It continues getting new content, with the next DLC expansion taking a western direction. Additionally, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is the latest free game on the Epic Games Store.

Eli Roth's Borderlands movie currently has no release date. While we wait, Borderlands 3 is available now on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. If you have a Nintendo Switch and missed the other games in the series, you can pick up the Borderlands Legendary Collection now. As more news comes out about the film adaptation, we'll be sure to let you know.
