Cattails Campaign Proves that Kitties Are Popular Everywhere, Even Kickstarter

The husband and wife team at Falcon Development have harnessed the power of cute kitties for their game, Cattails. The Kickstarter has raised nearly 10 times the amount of their original goal of $3210 USD and three days still remain. They devs are aiming for a PC, Mac, and Linux release in late 2017 with the game being accepted on Steam Greenlight to help the process.

The title is basically an open-world game with pixel graphics where you play as a feral cat. Your mission is to explore and survive different environments like forests, frozen over ponds and parks. You’ll have to hunt for food, protect your territory from other feral colonies, and make friends to gain new items and allies.

The world of Cattails promises to be full of mystery and surprises. Dynamic weather means that you’ll get to see and enjoy different seasons. You’ll be able to explore beyond your own territory and find new experiences such as rare type of prey or a rival clowder waiting to scratch you to pieces. You’ll find berries and herbs to collect which have different effects like healing or stat boosting.

While friendly cats will fulfill the usual NPC duties of shop keep, quest givers, and info dumpers, many of them are ‘marriageable’. Yes, cat romance and pheromones can fill the air. Gifts of berries or unique treasures are always good to help along the process. And of course, all the wooing and getting to know each other can lead to everyone’s favorite thing, kittens!

Cattails has already smashed its initial Kickstarter goal and has surpassed a number of stretch goals as well. From upgrading your den, to creating your own cat colony, to giving accessories to your character: the list of new features keeps on growing. The latest goal, at $32,100, will unlock unique colors for your kittens (which are based on a mix of its parents’ features) and turtles as a type of prey.

If you’d like to back the game, you have until May 4th, 9:30 am EDT to do so. However, if you do donate, it might be an indicator that you’re a crazy cat person. Just warning you.
