CD Projekt Red Confirms No More Binary Gender Options for Cyberpunk 2077
Following some criticism, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed the game will no longer have players choosing their characters' gender.
With all the Cyberpunk 2077 news from Gamescom, senior concept artist Barthe Jonkers has confirmed the game’s character creation tool has received some big updates.
“And our character creation menu, compared to the last demo, we now give you so many more options,” says Jonkers. “For instance, you don’t choose a gender anymore. You don’t choose, ‘I want to be a female or male character’ you now choose a body type. Because we want you to feel free to create any character you want.”
Jonkers also confirms the game will let players customize their character’s skin tone, hairstyle, tattoos, and style choices among other changes. Additionally, the character customizer lets players mix and match male and female voice options.
“We just wanna know what we can improve on because we want to make a really good game and we really wanna make a game that everyone is comfortable playing,” continues Jonkers. “But at the same time, we’ll tackle difficult issues. It is a cyberpunk world after all.”
Recently, CD Projekt Red has discussed things such as new game plus and multiplayer modes possibly coming to CyberPunk 2077. Additionally, they’ve talked about how the game will have a smaller map compared to The Witcher 3, but it’ll be denser. For players interested in checking the game out, CD Projekt Red will be hosting a live stream this Friday where they’ll show off 15 minutes of gameplay.
