CD Projekt Has Another Game in Store for 2016; One More AAA RPG by 2021 Besides Cyberpunk 2077
During CD Projekt’s 2015 financial results conference, President Adam Kiciński shared the plans for the company’s business strategy in the upcoming years.
As you can see in the slides below, the company plans to release “a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio” in 2016, in addition to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s expansion Blood and Wine (which will premiere in the second quarter of this year).
During the call, Kiciński mentioned that the nature of this project won’t be explained today, but there will be a time in which we will understand what this bullet point means. Later he also hinted that the company is “experimenting” and doing things that “nobody has ever done before.”
On top of that, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be the only game planned between here and 2021, but CD Projekt RED will work on another AAA RPG to be released by 2021.
On top of that, GOG.com plans to support the release of AAA games unaffiliated with the company expanding from the release of The Witcher series.
GOG Galaxy will also be expanded with new features and networking tech. Further support for the early access model has also been promised.
Incidentally, Kiciński was asked if the release of the second AAA RPG could be dependent on the coming of new consoles to the market, and he answered that even if he knew, he wouldn’t be able to say anything about that, since that kind of information is a closely guarded secret.
The only thing he could say is that currently CD Projekt is considered one of the most reputable developers in the world due to the success of The Witcher 3, so they closely collaborate with their technological partners, and know more than “what you can read in the newspapers.”
Of course, this shouldn’t be considered a hint that Kiciński currently knows of the release of new console in the next few years, but simply that they the company is kept informed by the manufacturers, so they’re able to plan accordingly.
