Developer Dead Mage has been plugging away on Children of Morta since well before their successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015. Their story-driven action-RPG has since found a publisher in 11 Bit Studios and the game is finally ready for the bright lights of release. Fortunately, we won't have to wait too long, as revealed by today's release date trailer. Watch it below.

In Children of Morta, you'll play as the Bergons, a family of heroes fighting back against the Corruption that invades their world. Each of the six family members has their own unique fighting style to go along with their disparate personalities. The game is run-based, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to test out each playstyle and find one that best suits you. Outside of the playable characters, the family's grandma and uncle are both around to help you improve the family's gear and attributes. Basically, they will be a way for you to permanently progress after each run.

We've gotten hands-on with the game a few times in early 2018. Both times we came away with mostly positive things to say. For my money, the game is really shaping up to be something worth paying attention to. The pixel art is fine, but when the game is in motion, it really shines. The team at Dead Mage have obviously put a ton of effort into making the animation feel top-notch, and it shows. I'm also very intrigued with the story-focus and will be watching closely to see how it all turns out.

Children of Morta will come first to PC on September 3. It will then come to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on October 15.
