Ciconia When They Cry Phase 2 Delayed to Late 2020, Ryukishi07 Teases Very Good News Coming on January 6

Ciconia When They Cry Phase 2 got delayed but we should hear more about another Ryukishi07 related project on January 6.

Ryukishi07 and 07th Expansion announced via a new year greeting message on Twitter that Ciconia When They Cry Phase 2 has been delayed. An announcement regarding the game was supposed to come in May 2020, most certainly to announce a near release date. However, Ryukishi07 now stated we won’t get news regarding Ciconia Phase 2 until later in 2020. Ryukishi07 explained the 07th Expansion staff reached this decision after discussion and considering Ryukishi07 has a lot of other ongoing projects.

Ryukishi07 also teased that a new announcement, “very good news” is coming on January 6. He also thanked the fans who’ve been supporting 07th Expansion all these years.

Ciconia Phase 1 launched on October 4, 2019. The game’s Steam version was translated by Witch Hunt and was published by MangaGamer. Ciconia is the newest series of When They Cry visual novels games from 07th Expansion, following Higurashi and Umineko. Ciconia‘s initial pitch is a stark contrast from Higurashi and Umineko, with a sci-fi-like setting. It’s however not the first time Ryukishi07 writes a sci-fi themed game as he, for example, wrote the sci-fi story Vespio 2438 in the 2016 released TRianThology.

In another message we translated a few months ago, Ryukishi07 also explained how Ciconia is supposed to have four episodes in total, how 07th Expansion changed over two decades, and how it affects Ciconia’s development. Taking this into account, it’s not surprising Ciconia When They Cry Phase 2 is getting delayed.

Ryukishi07 is also currently working on Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison, also known as Gensou Rougoku no Kaleidoscope or Gerokasu. This horror game published by Entergram was supposed to launch on November 28 on PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, but was indefinitely delayed. News regarding Gerokasu might be what Ryukishi07 teased for January 6.

Kaleidoscope of Phantasm Prison is written by Ryukishi07 and has character designs by Key co-founder Itaru Hinoue. The game basically has four different main characters stuck in a torture room, trying to find a way to escape. The players initially pick four cards to give to each of the four girls, changing their behavior and triggering many different developments and outcomes. You can check out more story details here. We’ve detailed the main characters and translated comments from the staff and cast in past articles.
