Citizens of Space is the out-of-nowhere sequel to 2015's Citizens of Earth. Before now, the only real promotion the game received was a short announce trailer that came out two weeks before release. Now, the game is out and has gotten a little bit more marketing. Check out the launch trailer below.

If you had told me in 2015 that Citizens of Earth would get a sequel, I would've thought you crazy. The game was fine (when it worked), but it certainly didn't leave a lasting impact. That said, I'm interested to see how the team has built on the Earthbound-like gameplay.

From the trailer, it appears that combat will be much more mini-game focused than the original. In just the last 30 seconds of the video, we see five or six different mini-games that appear to happen in the middle of battle. It also looks like quick time events will play a big part in how successful your attacks are. Those are welcome changes from the original, especially if they're able to make each character feel unique.

Speaking of characters, the first game had a very diverse cast. There were 40 different characters for you to find and collect. Citizens of Space also has around 40 characters to discover. However, instead of characters like Brother and Barista, you'll find the Time Cop, a robot Confectioner, and an alien Geneticist. Each of them looks completely different and bring a distinctive set of skills. I'll be interested to play this and see how everything turns out.

Citizens of Space is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
