Check out Sid Meier Civilization VI's newest civilization, Khmer, which is led by Jayavarman and features some neat special units and buildings.

Firaxis and 2K Games revealed the next DLC civilization for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI today, and it’s Khmer. The civilization of Khmer is set to be led by Jayavarman, a historical military leader of the region, and as usual, a First Look video was released that gives us a closer look at Khmer.

After gaining power during a time of crisis,King Jayavarman VII was a powerful military military leader that repelled many invaders while still helping his people back in the 1100’s. He ended up moving away from Hinduism and made Buddhism Khmer’s main religion, and built up a lot of infrastructure within Khmer, and is still remembered fondly in Cambodia. Khmer’s unique ability is called Grand Barays, and increases food yield when players construct farms next to Aqueducts; Aqueducts also give players faith and an amenity bonuses.

Khmer’s unique unit is The Domrey, who are ballista wielding war elephant siege units. They are more powerful than the normal catapult, can shoot and move in the same turn, and exerts zones of control once it is unlocked through the Military Engineering Technology. The civilization’s unique building/improvement is the Prasat, holy sites that replace temples and produce missionaries with the Martyr promotion, and gives players an extra Relic Great Work Slot.

The unique leader ability is called Monasteries of the King, which ensures that all holy sites garner players adjacent territory and give additional food and housing if built on a river. At the end of this article, you can see screenshots that highlight Khmer’s unique unit and improvement. Those who bought Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Digital Deluxe Edition will receive this DLC automatically when it goes live.
