Following the limited time promotion of Grand Theft Auto V last week, Civilization VI is the most recent title to get the free game treatment. Civilization is the latest entry in the popular turn-based strategy franchise making it a pretty big deal that it's being sold for free, especially right after Grand Theft Auto.

The Rockstar Games behemoth was the first free game under the Epic Games Store banner that was supposed to be unknown until it's release last Thursday, however, that surprise was soiled after the company seemingly broke the news out too early. In the past, Epic announced which game will be coming out the following week, but have now begun to keep it a secret, locked away in their "vault."

Leading up to the Civilization VI announcement, a potential leak of the upcoming free titles for the digital storefront hit Reddit showing off Grand Theft Auto V, Civilization VI, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and ARK: Survival Evolved to possibly releasing in that order. While Epic has yet to confirm or deny the leak it is now looking more apparent to be true.

Civilization VI will be free to purchase on the Epic Games Store until Thursday 8 am PST next week where another game will take its place. For bigger fans of the series that have yet to jump in, the Platinum Edition upgrade giving owners every DLC pack and major expansion is also on sale for fifty percent off at $39.99.

Epic Games Store has been giving away free games since it's launch back in December of 2018, but it seems more recently they have been more consistent with releasing bigger, well-known titles. It will be interesting to see what we will get the next few months leading into a jam-packed summer.
