Cloud Gardens Hits Steam Early Access Next Month

Cloud Gardens, a relaxing game about overgrowing the ruins at the end of the world, launches into Early Access in two weeks.

We all need some relaxation and destressing in our lives right now so Kingdom: New Lands developer Noio Games has finally announced an early access release date for their chilled out title, Cloud Gardens. The game is set to launch into Steam Early Access next month on September 9 and in the meantime, you can add it to your wishlist by heading over to its official steam page.

Cloud Gardens looks like a beautifully relaxing and mindful game in which players control the power of nature in their very own hands, allowing them to turn different abandoned structures into overgrown and decayed environments. You can place seeds in areas that will allow for plants to run wild creating beautiful disasters and overrun dioramas of charm and disorder. By salvaging and repurposing hundreds of discarded objects, the game will allow you to create unique structures for nature to reclaim.

Of course, if you fancy a mode where you have no goals whatsoever, players can also jump into the equally relaxing sandbox area where you’re free to let your creativity run wild to create beautiful scenes. There is also a “campaign” of six chapters where the task is to strike a balance between nature and the manufactured by covering each scene with salvaged objects and lush vegetation.
The ultimate task in Cloud Gardens is to cover as much of the environment with plants and whatever else you can get your hands on. As the objects begin to be overwhelmed by foliage, a meter fills to show your progress and you’re also given objects to expand the scene. These objects contribute energy to the growing of plants, but you will also have to cover them in foliage to complete the stage, striking a balance between nature and the manufactured.

“Cloud Gardens is the product of my ongoing fascination with nature and aesthetics in games. I was looking for a way to turn the plant simulation itself into a game.” said Thomas van den Berg, Creator of Cloud Gardens: “It is essentially finding an interactive way to enjoy the beauty of overgrown landscapes, giving the player a sense of creativity and ownership of their creation, built from natural and manufactured elements. I can’t wait to see the things people make!”

This game looks wonderful and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Like Thomas van den Berg, I’m also excited to see what other players will create for themselves. Cloud Gardens will launch as Early Access on PC on September 9, 2020. To learn more and to add it to your wishlist, you can visit the game’s Steam page here.
