Today Bandai Namco released a large batch of screenshots of the upcoming Souls-like action-JRPG Code Vein.

The screenshots showcase a look at the story, providing a look at the continuation of what we already saw with the hero fighting the Queen and being affected by her aura, with Jack shooting him to put him out of his misery.

When he eventually awakens, he is with Io. He has lost most of his memories due to the damage sustained, and Io can’t remember much of hers as well. Interestingly, her memories of the Vein and the Blood Tears are intact. The protagonist’s mysterious power restore the Blood Tears trees, and the two use the renewed fruits to heal themselves.

After that, both are captured by the followers of Gregorio Silva, that impose a strict taxation on the other revenant to “redistribute” the Blood Tears. Those who cannot pay are basically enslaved and sent underground to find Blood Tears. The same happens to the protagonist, but when he resurfaces, he finds the place under attack by other revenant driven crazy by coming in contact with the Queen’s aura.

With the hero and Io in a pinch, Luis appears and helps them in fending off the attackers. After the battle, Louis witnesses the hero’s power and brings him back to his base.

We also get to see more of theĀ Cathedral of the Sacred Blood level, which is a giant dungeon with sprawling hallways and stark elevation changes. Female lost protect the cathedral, and the interior is closed by a barrier. There is even a mysterious woman who looks like Io.

We also get to see more of Jack and Eva. Jack’s mission is to find revenants able to fuse with an object called Divine Shell. This item represents the only way to stop Q.U.E.E.N. infinite regenerative ability. Due to this mission, Jack is nicknamed “Revenant Hunter” and he has buried many with his own hands. Unfortunately, those who don’t have the “strong will” to withstand the fusion will be eroded by it. Eva has the power to calm the divine shell with her singing voice, and thus she supports Jack.

Jack is a strong close-range fighter with exceptional avoidance abilities, making him very hard to hit. His Blood Shot ability lets him also attack from a distance, while his Active Record ability increases his stamina, letting him dodge and attack longer.

The his common blood partner ability named Fatal Day lets him and the hero trade-off regeneration for higher attack power and lower stamina consumption.

Eva is a long-range fighter who uses a bayoneted rifle. Her Blood Lore ability generate blood blades that can be shot at the enemy, while Authority lets her and her companions use abilities faster. Limited SongĀ is her common blood partner ability. It trades-off higher ichor consumption for higher drain and ability efficiency.

More screenshots showcase the Successor of the Ribcage boss, that guards the cathedral.

You can check out all the screenshots below. If you want to see more, you can also enjoy a recent gameplay video and another from the beginning of March.

Code Vein will release some time in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re interested, you can pre-order it on Amazon.
