To many, many indie developers, retro gaming means going back to the 8-bit and 16-bit days. Very few look to the chunky blocks of the 64-bit era. But that's exactly what Renegade Sector Games did with their 3rd person shooter Cold Vengeance.

Even though there is a launch trailer for the game, the premise alone should make you want to check it out. Basically you set out to rescue the president who has been kidnapped by evil Canadians who have made an alliance with ninjas.

And you're a military man known as Sgt. Jon Dagger who has a USSR engineer living in his brain. Are you ready to 'fight post-apocalyptic barbarians, Canadian soldiers, fiendish robots, and powerful ninjas' in order to reclaim the prez from the Great White North.

The game intentionally looks dated and it's hard not to get nostalgic while watching those cubic explosions. The environments range from surprisingly impressive to 'wow, is it supposed to look this bad?' There's also a familiar 'fog of war' effect to harken back to the old days of limited draw distance. And don't even get me started on those 'facial effects.'

Cold Vengeance is now available on Steam for 20% the usual $14.99 USD price. This launch sale lasts until January 18th. Are you ready to relive the glory days of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter or Jet Force Gemini but this time with mind-controlled gorillas?
