After last season’s popular Zombie outbreak, CoD: Black Ops Cold War brings the Outbreak back in Season 3.
Among the many new changes and upgrades to help you, the Aether Tool is a pretty useful one.

What Is The Aether Tool in Outbreak?
According to CoD’s blog, the idea behind the Aether tool in the Outbreak is:

In tthe same blog, they mention that the Dark Aether story continues as the Requiem expands its operations in Russia. New secrets about the Dark Aether will be uncovered “as the stage is set for the events yet to come…”

In the game, the Aether Tool is a wrench which upgrades the rarity of your gun by one tier. This will help you in combat in the Outbreak.
How To Unlock And Use It For Upgrades
The Fury Crystal event is a feature of the new Cold War Outbreak. If you destroy Fury Crystals, you can unlock the powerful Aether Tool.
However, players are also reporting that the wrench is also dropped by Zombies in the Outbreak. Remember that this is a possibility only for high-level players.

You need to attach the Aether Tool item to your gun to upgrade it to a higher Tier.
However, some PC players are reporting that they are unable to do so. We will keep you updated when Treyarch patches this for Outbreak.
