During today's E3 2019 Nintendo Direct, Konami revealed a brand new Contra game. Titled Contra Rogue Corps this new frantic shooter is coming to Nintendo Switch sometime on September 24. Check out the reveal trailer below:

Contra Rogue Corps looks different than the 2D games of the NES and NES era. Instead of a sidescrolling platformer, the game is a top-down shooter with multiple playable characters, including a Panda.

Since the major Hideo Kojima controversy in 2015, Konami's lineup of brand new console games has been pretty dry. Super Bomberman R was a Nintendo Switch launch title in 2017 and Metal Gear Survive released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in February 2018. Konami has been sitting on the Contra IP without releasing a brand new game for awhile, so it's nice to see it finally reemerge. The game will be shown behind closed doors at E3 this year and DualShockers is checking it out, so expect to learn more about Contra in the future.
