From its intriguing story and world to its breathtaking visuals and technical prowess, Control from Remedy Entertainment has been among the most acclaimed games of the year so far. While the game received a much-requested update to add Photo Mode and other new features earlier this week, some unexpected issues with the latest update have forced Remedy to revert the latest changes and make some bug fixes.Specifically, users on Reddit (via USgamer) discovered that the most recent update for Control made the game playable only through the Epic Games Store launcher, meaning that you couldn't run the game from its executable or by integrating it into your Steam library, effectively removing the ability to play the game offline. In addition to that, other players also had found that the most recent update removed support for the Steam Controller. These changes led some players of Control to suspect that the most recent update for the game introduced DRM that would prevent them from using the game (or other features) outside of the Epic launcher, which sparked criticism being aimed at Remedy, Epic Games, and publisher 505 Games. In response to these issues discovered by players, developer Remedy Entertainment detailed on Twitter that these were unintentional changes caused by the latest update. According to Remedy, the use of the Epic Games Store launcher was meant to "validate future paid expansions, not to force you to play online or to remove Steam Controller support."For the time being, Remedy detailed that the PC version of Control has been rolled back from its most recent update to its previous iteration on the Epic Games Store. This of course means that the Photo Mode feature that was introduced will be unavailable for now, but Remedy assured that it will be restored as soon as the issues with the latest update have been corrected.Control is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
