Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy Debuts as the Biggest Single Format Launch of 2017 in the UK

PS4 exclusive Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy proves nostalgia is still a powerful thing: registering a massive debut week in the UK.

The 26th week of the UK Sales Charts are in, and for not the first time this year, nostalgia ruled the day. Unlike last week, which saw GTA V return to the top for the 13th time, this week’s top dog features a new, old-ish debut: Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy.

Coming off the back of nostalgic releases like WipEout: Omega Collection and Tekken 7 — both of which topped the chart at one point — this week sees not one, not two, but three classic franchises debut in the top 10. The first is the crown-jewel itself, PS4 exclusive Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, the recent full remaster from the ground up of Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex, and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped for the PS4 from developer Vicarious Visions.

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy gives the iconic series — which has now moved up to No. 24 on the UK’s best-selling ever at retail chart — its first-ever No.1. But not only that, the remaster also enjoyed the biggest Week One single format launch in the UK in 2017, and the second biggest Week One Launch in general, behind only multiplatform release Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Debuting right behind Crash is another nostalgic title: Micro Machines: World Series (PS4, Xbox One, PC) from developer Codemasters. As you might know, the iconic miniature racing series debuted all the way back in 1991 on the NES. Rounding out the top five is GTA V at No.3, Forza Horizon 3 at No.4, and FIFA 17 at No.5.

As for new debuts this week, Frontier Developments’ Elite Dangerous (which finally hit PS4) debuted at No. 7, The Golf Club 2 from Maximum Games landed at No.27, and Valkyria Revolution from Sega debuted at No.34.

Here’s the full Top 40 for Week 26 2017 (the week ended on July 1st)
