The second post-launch support event for CTR: Nitro-Fueled, the "Back N. Time Grand Prix," goes live this Friday, August 2, at 7:00 AM PDT for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Back N. Time brings an assortment of time-travel and dinosaur-flavored features to the game, including new characters, skins, karts, and track. As with Nitro Tour, the first post-launch event for CTR: Nitro-Fueled, everyone who owns the game and has an internet connection will be able to participate for free.

Back N. Time introduces a new track called "Prehistoric Playground" which aims to "immerse racers in an epic world with Jurassic-sized flora, violent geysers bursting from the ground, caves with mysterious wall-paintings, and of course, giant dinosaurs roaming the land." These dinosaurs can pose as both obstacles and ramps, and multiple paths snake through the track's caves, jungles, and arenas. There are a couple of Super Turbo Pads there too, so look forward to blowing past the competition with Ultimate Sacred Fire.

When the event begins on Friday, new characters and karts will be available for purchase at the Pit Stop. Baby Crash and Baby Coco will be there, along with the Probulot 2000--a classic kart with a Back to the Future Part II-style redesign. The Pit Stop will also feature a bunch of cool new skins--Sabretooth Pura, Caveman Zem, Stone Age N. Tropy, and Mad Scientists Ripper Roo and Crash, respectively. You can nab all of these characters, karts, and cosmetics by spending the Wumpa Coins you've been earning in-game. Not bad.

By participating in the Back N. Time Grand Prix, players will also unlock a third new character: the infant Tyrannosaurus Rex, Baby T., is officially coming to CTR: Nitro-Fueled. In addition to Baby T., you'll be able to earn 17 other neat rewards by completing Grand Prix challenges, including a dino-themed racing kart and a Nerd Crash skin.

Free new content is a great move for an already stellar game. However, Back N. Time does bring a bit of controversy along for the ride: microtransactions. Until now, the only way to earn Wumpa Coins, the in-game currency of CTR: Nitro-Fueled, was to play the game. However, after the Back N. Time update goes live, players will be able to "fast-track their Wumpa Coin collection." In other words, you'll soon be able to buy Wumpa Coins (and therefore the sharpest karts and cosmetics) with real-world currency. Some might think of this as a convenient way to save some time. Others, though, might call it cheating and an exploitative business tactic. You be the judge.
