The official Nintendo Youtube Channel recently released a video that shows a team of musicians performing a previously unheard song from Studio MDHR’s upcoming DLC for Cuphead, The Delicious Last Course. The song is titled “High-Noon Hoopla,” and will most likely be the soundtrack for one of the several boss battles you’ll be sure to encounter.

The number of musicians and the variety of instruments being played is simply flabbergasting, and they all combine to create what’s a pretty fun and exciting track. But of course, words won’t do it justice, check it out for yourself below!

The original Cuphead was released in 2017 to near-universal acclaim. Moreover, the game was praised for effectively capturing the early 1900s era cartoon style, often referred to as rubber hose animation. Less than a year later, Studio MDHR announced they were working on DLC for the game, aptly titled The Delicious Last Course.

The DLC was slated for 2019, and, well, for those not keeping track of their calendar, it's currently 2022. Yeah, delays and Cuphead often went hand-in-hand, but this is because of how painstaking their animation process is. The DLC has gone gold however and is marked for an imminent June 30th, 2022 release date.

It's not all visual art though. Cuphead's gameplay is fun, fast-paced, and frustratingly challenging, and the soundtrack rivals any AAA game you know. The base game's songs were praised almost as much as its art style. The song "High-Noon Hoopla," as suggested by its name, sounds like it will be for a cowboy/wild-west style boss, given the instruments and melody heard in the video. This is not Cuphead's first instance of revealing the recording process for their songs. They did it before for a DLC song called Overture and songs in the original game many years ago.

The video states that the DLC's soundtrack was performed by a whopping 110 musicians, and was all recorded in the midst of the pandemic, Summer 2021. This shows the studio continues to uphold its virtue of quality over everything, and if this is what they're doing with the soundtrack, the rest of the game will likely follow suit. This was corroborated by an interview done right here at Dual Shockers, with the game's executive producer, Maja Moldenhauer. She states the DLC is "the biggest island yet, there are five super-sized bosses, with tons and tons more to discover."

Furthermore, in Moldenhauer's Summer Game Fest interview with Geoff Keighley, when Keighly remarked that the DLC felt like its own game inside of Cuphead, she responded with a clear "It is, it is, definitely."

Cuphead is coming to PC, Switch, Xbox One and PS4, on June 30th, 2022.
