The invention of cute characters in gaming is one of the best things that could have happened to the world. It creates experiences that even full of violence and action have moments of respite. Sometimes an entire game's aesthetic is based on being cute and then players get a cuteness overload in the best way possible. Whatever the reason a cute character might appear in a game players love them.

This is a list of some of the cutest characters to have appeared in gaming. This is not based on how good the game they appear in is but rather how adorable they are based on a totally real cute adorable scale of awwness.
10 10/10 Tom Nook
Tom Nook is the most underrated character in Animal Crossing. He was never given his rightful spot in Smash Bros when he's been a staple to Animal Crossing since its creation. Yes, he is the landlord of the game and owns a store, but he is also reasonable in his prices. On top of that, he's an adorable little raccoon dog.
It's canon that he is just a misunderstood man and not some evil capitalist trying to ruin everyone's day. Maybe through this players will see his more calm caring nature as in newer titles.
9 9/10 The Lamb
The Lamb works as such a great contrast to the hyper-demonic game Cult of the Lamb. The contrast in the visuals of the game is what makes him stand out. Watching the main protagonist of the game be a cute little lamb committing atrocious acts adds something special to the game that just can't be explained unless it's experienced.
Players will want to see all of the different ritualistic acts that The Lamb can perform. The Lamb also looks adorable cutting up cultists with the different weapons that the game introduces.
8 8/10 Paolumu
The monsters in Monster Hunter: World won't make players think twice about slaying them. That is every single monster except the wildly adorable Paolumu. The Paolumu is a cute bat-like creature that has a white fur coat that covers part of its body.
The best thing about the Paolumu is that when it inhales air it makes its throat and face into a big fury bubble. The art style is peculiar. It's so cute that players will feel kind of bad trying to attack it out of the sky.
7 7/10 Toad
Toad has been loveable since his first appearance in 1985. As the Mario franchise has gotten bigger so has Toad's appearance. He even garnered his own game called Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The treasure tracker toad variation is probably one of the cutest iterations of Toad as his big shiny light looks so snug on his big head.
Toad will probably continue to have plenty of appearances as time goes on. Hopefully, players will continue to see a slew of games that feature him.
6 6/10 Honey
Honey in the Katamari series is one of the cutest of the Little Prince's cousins that players can find. She has a super interesting design with a face that looks otherworldly. Though the proportions are odd and misshaped everything that's put into her design makes her pleasant to play as.
The pastel pink variation she has is probably one of the best iterations of her as the color palette the artists used in creating her looks stunning.
5 5/10 Kirby
Kirby is one of the greatest creations in gaming. This is because he is an adorable pink orb with feet that are way too big for the rest of his proportions. His ability to gain the parts of the appearance of other characters has also always been done well. This makes for a lot of different cute Kirby combos.

Few other protagonists look as adorable digesting and stealing the powers of their foes. Kirby deserves some type of award for pulling that one off.
4 4/10 Moogles
Moogles are always small and cute no matter how much power they have. They serve so many different purposes in the Final Fantasy series as well as in Kingdom Hearts. Anytime a player runs into one they are a pleasure to see as there is nothing in gaming that looks quite like them.
Their peculiar appearances always catch the attention of players. It's probably not possible to find a single one that isn't adorable in any of the games that they appear in.
3 3/10 Piplup
Piplup is one of the cutest starter Pokemon that has ever been introduced. This water-type Pokemon very closely resembles a baby penguin. The cutest thing about Piplup is that the developers somehow made a baby penguin-type Pokemon that's cuter than an actual baby penguin.
Having Piplup on the team is always pleasant and this is a Pokemon that I'm sure many players chose to never evolve because of how much they loved its design.
2 2/10 Cheese The Chao
In a game full of fast-paced action and killer robots Cheese the Chao comes out of nowhere to throw a smidge of adorable flair. This is not the only character in the Sonic franchise that is adorable. However, this character is the cutest out of all of its other competitors.
Cheese the Chao is small, cuddly, and a lot of the time a deadly weapon. That is part of what makes him so loveable is that his little body is usually used as a weapon by his best friend Cream the Rabbit in sonic.
1 1/10 Sackboy
Sackboy has so much history behind him that it's hard not to give him the top spot. The game LittleBigPlanet that he belongs to helped out Sony and created a new way of playing platformers by forming a community-based game. All of that's great and all, but what makes Sackboy even better is the player's ability to make him express different emotions.
Players can make him sad, angry, or overjoyed and each emotion is hyper-expressed making it a delight to witness. Players can also adorably smack one another in the most nonchalant aggressively cute manner. Overall, the design and what players can do with it is wonderful.
