Today, Polish developer CD Projekt Red — who you may recognize as the team behind The Witcher series — announced that some of the companies internal files have been stolen, among them, early designs of Cyberpunk 2077,  its highly-anticipated upcoming role-playing game that the company has done a good job of so far keeping from the public-eye.

According to CD Projekt Red an unidentified individual or individuals informed the developer that they have gained possession of the files and are demanding a ransom for their return, otherwise said individual or individuals will leak the files onto the internet for everyone to see.

CD Projekt has responded by saying it will not be giving into the demands, but rather has contacted the authorities. Consequently, it has said that this may lead to the files being leaked out, including the early designs of Cyberpunk 2077.

To this, the Polish company notes that the files on Cyberpunk 2077 are “old and largely unrepresentative” of the current vision of the game. Still, as the company points out, if you’re looking forward to the game it would be best to stay away from these files if they are dumped onto the internet, presumably because of spoilers.

CD Projekt Red finishes the announcement with stating it will share more on Cyberpunk 2077 officially “when the time is right.”

We will be sure to update this story as it progresses.
