Cyberpunk 2077 Could Sell 20 Million Copies in its Launch Year, According to Analyst
Bloomberg lists CD Projekt Red as the top tech company to watch in 2020 thanks to the impending launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
There’s no doubt about it that CD Projekt Red is going to have a massive 2020 thanks to the planned release of Cyberpunk 2077 in April of next year. Just how big will the game’s launch be though? According to one analyst, it might do well enough to sell more copies than many currently expect.
Bloomberg recently released its list of the top 50 companies to watch in 2020 and in the process listed CD Projekt Red as the 11th overall business to keep an eye on. This ranking puts CDPR as the top tech company on the list with the reason for such being almost entirely that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to launch within the calendar year.
According to the analysis from Bloomberg’s Matthew Kanterman, he expects Cyberpunk 2077 to possibly exceed the already lofty sales expectations that the game has. Kanterman goes on to say that it’s within the realm of possibility that Cyberpunk 2077 could sell as many as 20 million copies within the first year of its release alone, which would be staggering, to say the least. This is a threshold that is rarely seen with video game sales, other than perhaps with Rockstar titles like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
That said, after the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it’s not surprising that Cyberpunk 2077 would be expected by some to do this well in terms of sales. Plus, the fact that Keanu Reeves is associated with the game has surely made casual audiences all the more aware of the title, if they weren’t already. Only time will tell if CDPR ends up doing this well with Cyberpunk 2077, but I don’t think anyone doubts that it will absolutely be one of the biggest releases of 2020.
Cyberpunk 2077 is planned to release next year on April 16, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
