CD Project RED reveals that this number includes both new and returning players. In addition to the Edgerunners update for Cyberpunk 2077, we should also mention the release of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime TV series on Netflix that received highly-acclaimed reviews from the viewers. Probably, a significant amount of current players have decided to buy Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time or return to their adventure with the new content provided with a recent update.

With the Edgerunners update, Cyberpunk 2077 received three new gigs, one new brief mission that teases the first episode of the Edgerunners TV series, and a number of new weapons and items. While there is a debate between fans that whether the new update is worth to go back to the Night City or not, this is the last update for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. So, if own the game on an old-generation console, this is you won't get any better chance to visit Night City again.

On the other hand, there is an upcoming expansion for the next-gen version of the game with a new story content. CD Projekt RED has not shared any details about the timeline of the DLC yet, but the trailer does reveal some familiar faces.

The next big game from CD Projekt RED is a new entry from The Witcher series, which has already been confirmed, but it remains unknown when we can expect it to arrive, and when and where the story would take place.
