Hibernian Workshop and The Arcade Crew released a new story based trailer for their methodical 2D action game Dark Devotion today. The video showcases the game's unsettling world, an overly pious one that attempts to secure people's devotion by make them suffer and sacrifice.

The animated trailer doesn't showcase any gameplay, instead opting to showcase several moments the religious group in charge would punish those they deemed weren't devoted enough or hadn't sacrificed enough. Ultimately, this trailer leads to the sacred temple in which the game takes place. The developers also confirmed that several people will be in the temple during the player's journey, and will reveal more about the game's world to the player.

I had at chance to try out Dark Devotion this year at the Indie MIX event during E3, and it was a highly atmospheric, but enjoyable game to play. The game features the methodical nature and dark dreary aesthetic of titles like Dark Souls or Castlevania, but puts its own spin on things with the religious themes, unique weapons, and the blessing and curse system.

You can check out the game's newest story trailer below. Dark Devotion is currently in development for PC and unspecified consoles.
