Since its release, fans of the Dark Souls series have been dying for a chance to jump from Games for Windows Live over to Steam with the Prepare to Die Edition, and now Bandai Namco are giving players that opportunity this fall.

Publisher Bandai Namco announced that starting next month, players of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on the now-discontinued Games for Windows Live platform will be able to redeem a copy of the game (at no extra cost) over on the Steam version, and for a duration of time be able to transfer over their game data, including characters, saves, and achievements.

Users of the GFWL version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will be able to redeem their tokens for the Steam version starting in November, although no specific date has been given yet for the period that players can transfer over their game data, saves, characters, and achievements. Players can still use their GFWL tokens to redeem the game on Steam after the "migration period" ends, although the ability to transfer saves and other game data to Steam may not be available after that period runs out.

Dark Souls is available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
