Dark Souls: Remastered on PS4 Pro Includes HDR and 60 FPS; 4K Support Coming to Select Consoles

Dark Souls: Remastered brings new enhancements to the original adventure. Bandai Namco shares the new features coming to PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and PC.

Update: Kasumi Yogi has since corrected himself with an update to his original post. He stated that the inclusion of HDR lighting was a mistake and is, in fact, not included in Dark Souls: Remastered. The remaining features listed below are still included, however.

The fact that Dark Souls is considered a very popular franchise should come to no surprise to anyone. We learned today during the latest Nintendo Direct that Dark Souls: Remastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch, as well as the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. What we weren’t given specification on was what made it a “remaster.”

The PlayStation blog published a post from Bandai Namco where Brand Marketing Associate Kasumi Yogi went into greater length about what features are being enhanced for the PS4 Pro version of the game. The first thing he mentions is the enhancement to 4K resolution. The original Dark Souls was released on last generation consoles before 4K was a viable option. Seeing the original vision in a higher fidelity is sure to bring die-hard fans back to the land of Lordran. He also lists HDR lighting and 60 FPS as features for the PlayStation 4 Pro, with no explicit mention on whether either enhancement will come to standard PS4s.

Graphical enhancements aren’t the only thing coming with the remaster, however. The original Dark Souls only allowed 1-4 players per realm, but the enhanced edition bumps the number up to 6 players, allowing more chances of teamwork or betrayal. Along with official dedicated servers, Bandai Namco is opening the door to more robust online support.

While it hasn’t been confirmed that other premium consoles will be getting all of these enhancements, Bandai Namco has detailed in a press release that both PC and Xbox One X would similarly support 4K resolution. DualShockers will update this article as new information becomes available.

Dark Souls: Remastered is coming to PS4 Pro, as well as Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on May 25, 2018.
