Remember when it was announced last year that Darkest Dungeon II was actively in development at Red Hook Studios? I wouldn't blame you if you said no, especially considering how quiet news on the project has been since its reveal. Well, today, the team behind the upcoming sequel finally broke that silence and provided a mini-update on the status of the project.Via the official Darkest Dungeon Twitter account, Red Hook Studios acknowledged that there has been a lot of silence surrounding Darkest Dungeon II. Over the past year, the studio has seemingly expanded its team to aid in the development of the sequel. "[We've] been tight-lipped regarding Darkest Dungeon II, but rest assured, the team is working very hard, and the game is coming together," said the message on Twitter. Further news on the game was then promised to come about "when the stars are right."

As of this writing, there still isn't a whole lot that we know about Darkest Dungeon II. Red Hook has said that the sequel is planned to be very different from the first entry in the series, but we haven't seen in the way of gameplay how exactly things could be shaken up. The general structure of the combat system from the first game is said to be making a return, but Red Hook has stated that it would also be altered to a certain degree.

For now, all we know for certain is that Darkest Dungeon II is slated to arrive on PC and it will release via Early Access initially. If it ends up coming to additional platforms, Red Hook Studios will surely inform fans down the road. In the meantime, we'll just have to continue waiting patiently until more information on this highly-anticipated strategy title is ready to be unveiled to the public.
