Darkest Dungeon Board Game In Development at Mythic Games
The Darkest Dungeon board game adaptation is being made by the team behind games like Time of Legends: Joan of Arc and Mythic Battles
Red Hook Studios’ Darkest Dungeon is a punishingly difficult RPG. The game was an instant success when it launched back in 2017 and the developers are currently working on a sequel. However, that’s not the only new Darkest Dungeons content players have to look forward to. Today, on The Dice Tower, board game publisher Mythic Games announced that they are Kickstarting a new game based on Darkest Dungeon. The Kickstarter doesn’t have a firm date yet but expect a fall 2020 launch.
As you can see, outside of the announcement that the team is working on it, there isn’t much to the announcement. That’s not overly surprising for Kickstarter announcements. Board game publishers seem to prefer giving fans a drip-feed as they near release. Expect to see a lot more of the game as we move toward the fall.
That said, it definitely seems like a property that should translate well to an analog version. Obviously, without any concrete details, all I do is speculate. But, you could easily see worker placement become the game’s core system. Another option could be to turn the game into a co-op and let each player control their own hero.
Of course, all of that is just speculation. For now, all we know is that Mythic Games is the team behind the game. They’re the crew behind games like Time of Legends: Joan of Arc and Mythic Battles. Both games have roots in wargames, so that’s another potential option for Darkest Dungeon.
We’ll know for sure later this fall when the Darkest Dungeon board game comes to Kickstarter.
